Crazy Fashionista: Tamara Dey

She is well known for her unique style, music and flaming red hair…if we had to compare her with a Hollywood celeb, she would definitely be South Africa’s Madonna. She does not take style too seriously and believes in feeling beautiful and confident in whatever you are wearing.

Tamara Dey, born in Belgium grew up in Pretoria and has some Italian blood running in her veins. She was discovered for her music in 2000 by DJ Pepsi who introduced her to music producers Brothers of Peace and together they made the hit “Thathi Mphahlayakho” which was the big break in her career. A few years later she went in another direction and started the band Flash Republic which she is still part of and ever since became a big name in the music industry in South Africa.

Not only has Tamara’s musical talent and personality stunned South Africa, but she also had a big impact on our fashion. She proved to be a crazy fashion risk taker by creating a very daring look with her hairstyles. Her personal fashion style is no different seeing that she always surprise us with something trendy and a touch of Avant Garde.

Tamara is a real street shopper. She loves shopping in Long Street and any type of vintage store with unique garments, but when stepping onto a red carpet, she knows which designers to wear to make her stand out. Some of her favourite local designers include Black Coffee, Suzanne Heyns and Stiaan Louw and lately most of the dresses Tamara choose to wear are designed by the fabulous Abigail Betz.

The camera loves Tamara when it comes to doing high fashion shoots. She has been featured in Top Billing magazine for their fashion spread wearing stunning David Tlale designs.

Tamara does not only stand out for being a great singer or a trendsetting celebrity for the younger generation, but she also has the unique and beautiful personality to go with her outer beauty  which makes her the perfect fashionista of the week.
