I love going onto www.ifashion.co.za to get up-to-date info on South African retail news. Oh yes, Edgars are bringing in the amazing brand Abercrombie and Fitch. Do we need another overseas brand to enter the retail market? Some would say what happened to supporting local talent but that is not a debate we will have today!
Hugues Witvoet, Chief Executive of Edcon Department Stores, confirmed recently that young, preppy American brand Abercrombie & Fitch will be stocked at three select Edgars stores from early September. These include Clearwater, Melrose Arch and Sandton City.
The brand, with 300 stores across America, famously opened their London flagship with the help of exceptionally good-looking bare-chested male models. This is a typical expression of the brand that is healthy, sexy and fun.
Abercrombie’s younger brother Hollister Co will also be available at the Edgars stores.According to Witvoet the brands ” epitomize East Coast sophistication and West Coast chic. It’s Ivy League credentials with NY grit and LA cool.”
What about Cape Town???? We need one too!

I recently moved to South Africa from the US and let me tell you Americans stopped wearing Abercrombie and Fitch years ago. It’s a shame that South Africa has such a bad (small) selection of fashion that you’re all excited about leftovers. Did you know Abercrombie is in so much trouble they’re closing stores in the US? I’m not trying to be snarky rude but I’m trying to make you all open your eyes. Abercrombie and Fitch didn’t respect the African market in their glory days; they never opened stores here in their glory days. Now that they’re broke they’re crawling to us. Eye roll.
